The Early Years Foundation Stage (DfE revised Sept 2014) forms the basis for all our day to day activities, resources and learning goals through for each child the four overarching principles of the statutory framework and the seven areas of learning and development.
THREE PRIME AREAS
Using the Early Years Outcomes as a guide for keyworkers to help aid and encourage each individual Childs learning goals through regular activities and observations which is documented in each Childs own learning journal and scrapbook and readily available for parents to look at upon request. All keyworkers will work with parents, families and other agencies/childcare providers to ensure that children make continuous progress in their development.
We recognise and understand that all children are unique and engage with other people and their environment through their own characteristics of effective learning.
By making regular observations and using the Development Matters as a guide, keyworkers are able to tailor each child’s learning to their own characteristics.

What to expect when Is a guide to help you as a parent/carer find out more about how your child is learning and developing during their first five years, in relation to the EYFS. Children develop more rapidly during the first five years of their lives than at any other time. This booklet has been written to help you as a parent know what to expect during these vitally important years by focusing on the seven areas of learning and development which are covered in the EYFS.
Tuning into 2 Year old is for practitioners and was commissioned by the London Borough of Harrow from 4Children, as part of their ‘Improving Outcomes for Two Year Olds’ project. It aims to celebrate the unique characteristics and development of children who are two years old, and to show how exciting and dynamic this period of each child’s life can be. Children go through incredible changes, when their brains grow more rapidly than they ever will again – at times a million connections are forming every second between their brain cells. We hope to show that if children are supported through these changes by a close partnership between parents and practitioners who share the wonder and excitement of two year olds, this can have a life – long impact on children’s learning, and on their enjoyment of life.
